Travelogue to The Holy Land—Begins Nov. 5, 2018

Come join us for an arm-chair trip to the Holy Land beginning the first week of November. Our adult study groups will be viewing “The Journey”, a 5-week DVD centered travelogue visiting Nazareth, Bethlehem, Sepphoris, the Herodium and Ein Karem. As we enter the season of Advent, what a tremendous learning adventure this will be! We will read the Biblical account of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem and then tour the actual historic sites from the Bible via DVD.

Classes will be offered on Monday evenings from 7-8 p.m. and Wednesday mornings from 9:30-10:30 a.m.The first sessions will be on November 5th and 7th in the church library. Materials are free and will be available at class.

Please let Peggy Stringham or the church office know of your interest so enough material will be available. There is also a daily advent devotional booklet, The Journey: A Season of Reflections by Adam Hamilton that participants may want to order for their own personal use.

“Unafraid- Living with Courage and Hope in Uncertain Times”— Late January 2019

For our Adult Bible Study after Christmas we will be reading and discussing Rev. Adam Hamilton’s book, “Unafraid”. Drawing on recent research, inspiring real-life examples, and fresh Biblical insight, Hamilton shows how to untangle the knots we feel about disappointing others, failure, financial insecurity, loneliness, insignificance, and aging. He also helps readers understand and counter fears related to such outsized perils as terrorism, death, and the apocalypse. Writing with generosity and intelligence, Hamilton shows how believer and unbeliever alike can develop sustaining spiritual practices and embrace Jesus’ recurring counsel: “Do Not Be Afraid”.

Rev. Hamilton is senior pastor of the 20,000 member Methodist Church of The Resurrection in Kansas City and is the best-selling author of 25 books. We used his advent study “The Journey” in November for our adult classes here at FPC. Classes will be offered on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings beginning in late January.

Watch for more details about starting dates and how to purchase a copy of the book.
