The goal of FPC’s adult education program is to nurture the faith of FPC’s adults by offering educational opportunities designed to equip them for ministry, witness and victorious daily living. We are committed to the principle that Christian education should be a life-long process.
Open Forum
Open Forum, open to all adults, meets in the Campbell Addition on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour. Topics and class formats vary. Topics range broadly during the year, and include bible studies, book studies, seasonal studies, current events and social issues of importance to Christians. Class formats include pastor-led classes, self-study with a discussion leader, DVD lectures, outside speakers and classes led by our members and others.
Open Forum Class Schedule
Open Forum is currently studying the Book of Revelation. Our teacher, via DVDs, is Dr. Brian K. Blount, leading Revelation scholar and author of Revelation: A Commentary. Dr. Blount is professor of new testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary, and also serves as the seminary’s president. This series concludes on May 6.
On May 14, we will view and discuss the movie “The Dark Side of Chocolate.” Did you know that more than 40% of the world’s supply of cocoa comes from Africa’s Ivory Coast? And did you know that the U.S. Department of State estimates that more then 109,000 children in that country’s cocoa industry work under “the worst forms of child labor,” and that some 10,000 are victims of human trafficking or enslavement? Learn the bitter truth about chocolate. The public is invited to this class, which begins at 9:30 AM and lasts one hour.
Our final class for this year will be held on May 20. We will have a panel of three FPC physicians present a forum on strokes. Join us to find out just what a stroke is, how they are caused, how they are treated, the complications of strokes and what preventive steps we can take. The public is invited to this class, which begins at 9:30 AM and lasts one hour.
Cornerstone
Cornerstone, also open to all adults, meets in the library on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour. Participants share in the leadership of Cornerstone. A wide variety of formats (films, audio tapes, video, topical study booklets) have been used from time-to-time. Classes are typically offered in a series over 4-5 weeks.
Cornerstone Class Schecule
Cornerstone classes will resume in the fall.
